Tell Me Your Secrets...PLEASE.

Hello all. I have nothing to bitch about today, or at least not yet. No bad news as of late. In fact, I've just come off of a four-day weekend (more or less) with Joe. We had a fabulous time together - went to Bisbee and Tombstone, had a date night, and yesterday got to be slugs as we ate, watched movies, and [he] played video games. Woohoo. Joe's back at work today, so I'm going to clean up our little room and get my oil changed. Yeah, since leaving Rolla, I've driven approximately 3500 miles. Now, THAT is a road trip.

I do have a spot of bad news: We haven't seen Karl in over 24 hours. He's usually very punctual about returning home, and we fear some large predator may have gotten him. Wendy already threw away his food bowls... It's pretty sad. Think good thoughts for Karl. And in case you have no idea who I'm talking about, it's the cat I spent the better part of a week with earlier in the month.

By now, you may be thinking, "Great, Kate - glad you're getting your friggin' oil changed and sorry about the cat, but what secrets do you want to know??" Well. Since most everyone has their own "big boy or girl place," is married, or is at least farther along in the human life cycle than I am, I wanted to ask you all what are the good things y'all have in your homes. I've got a lot of good stuff, but I want to know of specific products that you all have (and that you all can verify as being great to have). For example, I'm thinking of buying a food processor, a juicer, Egyptian cotton towels, more sheets (Egyptian cotton or bamboo), and any little kitchen gadgets that catch my eye. Yeah, so please tell me your nesting secrets because one day I hope to unpack all my crap from storage and live like the fun girl I am. Thanks.

PS. Kristen, I hope to hear from you on this!

Nesting secrets...hmmm....
Don't feel like you have to buy EVERYTHING at once - though you may want to. But do buy things as you need them. It may seem like you are spending a lot of money now but you only buy things like a patio furniture or vacuum cleaner maybe once or twice in your life. Hmm...Probably my favorite purchase since I've been married has been my couch. Both ends of it flip out like lazy-boy chair and we have fold-down cup holders. GREAT for watching FOOTBALL! :)

Um... we're not married and haven't registered for any of the cool crap yet. :) Most of our stuff is a menagerie of hand-me downs and stuff we have collected from garage sales, parents, and the like. So, take my opinion with a grain of salt. :)

If you are an Alton Brown fan, he is anti-unitasker for the kitchen. Check out his book "Gear For Your Kitchen" - it lists all the must haves and stuff not to waste your money on - and essentials every kitchen should have.

I also think a set of high thread count sheets are one of those little luxuries that everyone should enjoy. After all, you spend 1/3 of your day in bed.

I have to agree with Sarah about the couch. Our first purchase after we moved in together was our couch and it sounds pretty identical to what she has. Get something comfy but functional. The back of our couch comes off in sections somehow so it's easier to move. No sleeper sofas - they are a bitch to move!!! :)

TV. Flat screen, HD. You know the one. No buyers remorse there. Couches are good too...you know, for watching the big ass TV.

So wait, are you buying stuff now, or planning for things to buy?
