All self-inflicted of course. This title isn't referencing anything other than my inability to get myself to the gym. It's important to note that I'm watching Biggest Loser as I type this. Inspired much?
I know that I don't need major weight loss, but I do need to be healthy - get my body moving, have energy, and FEEL good. Also, it'd be nice to tone up a bit. Though I think I've mentioned it before, embarrassed, I'll admit again that I have a Gold's membership, and I've had one for about a year now. I just rarely use it. WTF, right? When I was back home living with my parents while Joe was gone, I used my membership there religiously. AND, I worked full time amidst going. I would go immediately from work to the gym and then show up at home where often there would be food to eat that Jan had cooked. GOD, I HAD IT GOOD. Now, despite working only 29 hours/week, I rush home to the dog because he is bananas with his unending energy. I feel bad if he's in his crate all day. Still, I'm trying to work it in. Today, I packed all my clothes and had everything with me at work to go straight to the gym. If I have to come home, it's over. The dog sees me, and I'm done. Well, today I realized I'd forgotten my CELL PHONE at home. That can't happen with Joe being gone. He knows my work number, so I was fine while I was there, but I couldn't not come home and get my cell phone. Which led to letting the dog out for a bit. Which led to Joe calling and me sitting and talking to him. By that time, it was the crazy busy time for the gym, and I'm not comfortable there when it's like that. I don't like Gold's as much as the Centre anyway because Rolla is so tiny and familiar. Here, it's bigger and more scary, and I'm just not quite used it...probably because I don't go enough, right? So there we have it. All this bullshit put down in writing only to realize that I need to suck it up and just do it.
But there is some good: I am busy around the house, and I've started walking Dex again for 30 minutes-ish in the evenings. Also, I don't eat like I do when Joe is home...though I did binge on cookies and wine over the weekend - mostly cookies. Okay, and chocolate truffles - but no more than two per day. Omg.
Whew, now I can move on. Despite the cookies and wine, I did have a productive weekend at home. Got exercise with mowing - yeah, part of the yard even requires me wearing cleats so I don't die. Cleaned some, organized/decorated, and hauled a bunch of crap to Goodwill. Getting rid of stuff feels SO GOOD. I don't think I could ever be a hoarder. You're welcome, Joe. Speaking of him, I may get to see him on Friday. Say what?! Yes, through satellite video at his company. I'm excited, though I do feel a little guilty. He hasn't been gone that long...hmm...but gone is gone, so what the hell. Now, if this does go down, wear my hair curly or straight..... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You Know You're an Adult When...
- When you find yourself finishing up mowing the lawn in the dark because you know it has to get done because yard waste pick-up is the following morning, and you don't want to store bags of grass (hee hee) at your house for a whole 'nother week.
- When you review your paid bills for the month to excitedly see if you can go ahead and knock out the rest of your credit card balance.
- And on your first day of a three day weekend being happy about having the yard work out of the way so you can prioritize your inside chores without distraction (other than the dog you're desperately trying to keep entertained).
That pretty much brings us to where I am currently. I just finished my cup of coffee, and I'm working on getting started with the house cleaning. I have no plans for the weekend, which I'm pretty excited about actually. Perhaps I like to isolate a little too much. Oh well. Dex and I may go to the park later. Also, I really need to finally get the house all the way unpacked. My Croatian friend may be coming to visit next month, and I want to have everything squared away and looking good before that. Woohoo!!
Other stuff...My birthday ended up being far less depressing than I thought it'd be. Work was okay that day, and then I went out with a couple coworkers afterward for dinner and drinks. It was fun!! I'd really envisioned myself coming home and getting drunk and suicidal, but alas, I came home happy, pleased with the day. Also, I got a lot of love - many voice mails and texts, etc. Also, in the last two days, I've gotten multiple bottles of wine (Ma) and a nice box of Godiva truffles (Ari) in the mail. I am so thankful for my friends and family! I know Joe gave a big sigh of relief; I think he'd anticipated some degree of suicidality as well.
That's about all I got. I'll just be working on the house this weekend, with a special project being a picture design to cover a big tall living room wall. Also, I may pick out some "neutral" paint samples for my realty company to approve - some of the walls are just a tad ugly. I might even drop a few bones on a new rug for the front door and curtains for the living room. I'm trying to be all complimentary colors and mixed pattern designs. If I ever get a finished product worth a damn, I'll post pictures. Ma - wish you were here to help!! :-)
Happy weekend everyone!

Oh Bla Di Oh Bla Da
This is a picture from my 23rd birthday in 2006. Joe worked with my parents to take me on a surprise-ish trip to St. Louis. It sounds silly now, but we were both broke students who managed to bust out of our respective towns and have a nice couple nights in STL with good food and a zoo visit! It was great. I'm not even sure why I'm holding onto this, but apparently I've decided to embrace the sadness of another birthday without Joey. On the bright side, I don't have the flu this year. Last year, as I sort of mentioned, I laid in a hotel bed because I'd come down here to pick up Joey after he graduated from his last training and in the process acquired Georgia flu. (Which I'm pretty sure could kill a person faster than any swine flu.) Anyhow. Joe laid in the bed with me - he'd ordered take out sushi and Thai food, which I tried to eat. It was rough. I'm sure it wasn't that much fun for Joe either, and I know he'd wanted it to be something special since he'd been gone the year before. In 2007, I spent my birthday in Mississippi with my Oma and Aunt Barbie while Joe was in training. It was a good night at P.F. Chang's, and one of the last nights out with Oma - she died just a couple weeks after that. Ah, if you can't tell, I've had sort of a bluesy evening. I really don't like my birthday, which still isn't even until tomorrow. By that, I've decided to keep drinking until it's over...which is going to make work a little tricky. On the bright side, though, Publix here now carries my favorite wine - Giovello pinot grigio. I have looked in many states for this wine...over a period of years. Perhaps it's a true birthday miracle, or just maybe the universe is giving me the green light to in fact drink until it's all over. My birthday that is - not my life. Good Lord, I don't want to get myself 1013'd. PS. In the state of Georgia if I ever get my clinical license (to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker), I can involuntarily commit people for psychiatric evaluations. What up?! :-)
Ooh, regarding my Facebook fight, I found out that I have been blocked, which I'll admit really bothers me. I've never had a cross word with this person until the FB incident, which I thought would just be over and done with when we'd both spoken our respective pieces, especially since we've both been therapists who counseled others in the ways of coping and communicating appropriately. I mean shit. The only time I have ever blocked someone was after a series - like months - of political comments etc that I eventually just didn't want to deal with anymore. But damn, I apparently offended this dude so badly on just one occasion that he is done with me. I just think it's a shame, especially since we were friends in the outside world, albeit not besties, prior to our friendship on FB. But of course shit happens. However, please, friends/family, if I ever offend you to the point that you're considering ditching me, come to me and talk to me about it first. C'mon, let's at least try.
On that note, I remember now that I sprayed Scrub free in my shower like four hours ago. Ta Ta.

Two Things
Even though I'll probably add in extra stuff...
First, I really think I lost a friend after a Facebook fight regarding the tennis players, Serena and Venus Williams. I'm in the process of confirming this, but either the dude deleted his whole account and no longer exists on facebook period, or he has blocked me. Not dropped me as a friend, but in fact BLOCKED me. Uncool. I'm actually quite shaken up by this possibility. Because, dude. It's Facebook.
Second, Joe finally got a good dose of life in a mental hospital. See, he called me today at work for the first time since he's been gone, which was apparently more than my tiny brain could handle - my two glorious worlds colliding. The first thing he said when I answered the phone was something along the lines of, "It took you long enough to answer one of the two damn phones." And because there are two phones in my office (which I had not been in for several minutes prior to this to hear which was ringing), I actually thought it was the administrator on call trying to reach me again on both of my office phones (which speaks to the environment where I work, not that the AOC has ever said anything like that to me before because he really hasn't). So anyway, I'm like "Haha, yeah, well, I just walked into the room." Silence. And then I say "This is _____ (AOC's name), right" To which I was informed, "No, this is your husband! Who's that? Your boyfriend??" He was joking. I felt like an ass. Oh well. So anyway. Fast forward to the end of the convo. I'm all in my office with the door shut, not really able to relax and enjoy the conversation as much as I normally would because I'm at work and have patients on my brain. But, alas, Joey doesn't feel well and needed to get to bed earlier, which in turn meant he needed to talk to me earlier if at all. So anyway, we're to the goodbyes when all the sudden "JESUS FORGIVE ME!!!!!" was shouted so loudly from the hallway that it had no trouble penetrating my closed door and the phone. I asked Joe if he heard it, and he said "Yes, Jesus?" Before I could say 'yes, there's a patient in the hallways outside my door,' "JESUS FORGIVE EVERYONE!!!!" was then screamed. Joe was pretty shocked. I don't really think he can totally wrap his head around where I work (and shit, most days I can't either). I just chuckled, and we said our goodbyes.
That was pretty much it. If I were to include a third thing it would be that I went over to a friend's after work and had dinner there. We even had a glass of wine afterward!!! Woohoo!!! Also, the Croat texted me a possible weekend in Oct that she may be able to visit! Ask and you shall receive. :-) PS. Susan, baby, Katie got a job. You don't have to fly me out. Just be home...and without other visitors! ;-)

Love this Guy
Damn it. As I'm trying to write this blog, the pic isn't showing up - just all the gunky code, which means I'm typing aimlessly around what will hopefully be the picture. Damn you, blogger.com!
So Joe's been gone about a month now. It's going by quickly, and I've managed to keep myself busy. But it still ain't easy. It'll actually be a full month on Tuesday. My birthday. Ha. This will make once in three years that I've spent my birthday with Joe - last year. And ya know how it was spent? With me laid up in a hotel room half dead with the flu. Ah, the self-loathing. We did have a little celebration before he left. He surprised me with a couple friends over and a bbq. Unfortunately I was 2-3 hours late because I had to stay at work longer due to an incompetent doctor. Ah well. Joe did well considering what he had to work with. Just wish he was around for the day itself. I miss him. Life is always better when he's around.
But speaking of doctors, I got to work with my favorite doctor today. He's my favorite because he's just about the most competent doctor there (the unit I work in rotates docs). And he's not bad to look at either. I refer to him at home around Joe as "hot black doctor," which Joe loves. Dude kicks ass. And because of that, there was no doctor-related foolishness that I had to straighten out today. Woohoo! I love it when I only have to do my job.
After work, I played with Dex for a bit, and then we both passed out. I desperately wanted to stay awake and watch Hoarders, but damn, I was out. After we woke up, I took him to Pet Smart to get more dog food. I haven't taken him in there in a lonnng time, so I walked him around the store for a bit. We breezed by his old trainer who was in a session. The trainer saw Dex, and I just smiled. Yeah, when Dex was little and having his private sessions, Jeffy boy once asked me incredulously, "You really think this dog is going to get to 50 lbs?!" Well, dick, he made it to 75 at least. So yeah. Take that, Jeffy!!! Dex was also pretty good in the store and allowed me to carry a big bag of dog food out to the car without making me fall as I walked him on his leash.
I have to work again tomorrow. Hot black doctor won't be there. Oh well. I may catch up with one of my friends afterward. Speaking of friends, I have been really missing my old friends lately. I know I've bitched about this before, but I'm realizing that I never really do anything fun anymore. I use my free time to get the house finished. It's just there's no one I can really call and go grab a drink with or whatever. Okay. That's a lie. There is. It's just... Bah. I just miss my old peeps. I was even beginning to plan to go visit Susan in Boston. I thought it'd be awesome to get out of here and go have good girl time. I haven't seen either of my best friends - Suze or the Croat in over a year. The dates aren't working out for Boston (suck), but the Croat may come visit in November, so we shall see.
Looking up, I am sooo in love with my husband. I've been falling in love with him all over again through e-mail. There are aspects to being apart that are of course good for a relationship. We're making the best of the good parts and getting through the rest as best we can. Even though I miss him and get pissed when I have to haul heavy boxes into the attic on a rickety ladder and hurt my back, yes, even then, I love love love him.

Well. I Just Set Off the House Alarm.
I managed to turn it off pretty quickly, just as I do every other time I accidentally set it off. Still, this time I was at the opposite end of the house (from the keypad) and had to sprint like a gold medal was at stake to shut that thing down. I tried to call ADT to let them know everything was good in the event they'd received a signal, but "all representatives are busy." Here's hoping the cops don't show up. Oh man.
So anyway. This weekend has been pretty good so far. The bullshit has subsided to a degree, and Dex and I have been able to relax. He's been the true victor this weekend - he had a ballin' time at the pond yesterday, and then a couple of his friends came over today. That also means that I got to hang out with one of my friends (and see a chipmunk shoot out of a drain pipe coming off my gutter), but still, I just don't think it's possible for humans to have as much or more fun than dogs. They just appreciate the little things more than we do.
Human contact aside, I've managed to get a few things done this weekend too. I rearranged what it is going to be our office and got it rolling in the right direction. With the help of mineral spirits and a scraper, I managed to get all the stickers off one our book cases that Joe's great grandpa made for Joe's mom back in the day. I think Joe will be pleased. The stickers have pissed him off since I've known him, and they were put on (by a brother or a cousin?) long before that. Also, after a sandbox escapade in which one of the other dogs had to have grown hands and dumped a bucket of sand on Dexter's back, I bathed him. Like car wash style - with a hose and spray nozzle as he stood deeply depressed in the driveway. Not long after that, I put on my big girl pants and fixed the lawn mower. Hell yeah. The mower had thrown a belt, and that's why it wasn't engaging the self-propel option anymore. But I got that belt back on, and it's ready to go. However, I didn't mow today (saving that fun for tomorrow). Instead, I took Dex for a walk so he could air dry a bit more. I'm also trying to ease myself back into working out. Joe keeps making comments about different work out related things I could do. Hint hint. He hasn't said anything specifically about what he wants to come home to. Except for my hair. He told me yesterday that he wants it exactly as it was when he left. He apparently really digs this new haircut. But what the hell - why don't I tone up a little also? Golds Gym is already getting my damn money...

Oh Man
When you read the title, I don't know how the words sound in your head, but please hear them as the lawyer from Scrubs was always saying them. In a high pitched, spineless, defeated way.
Let me preface this with the fact that the best part of my day was when I was at work. But shit, that statement deserves a disclaimer in that work really wasn't all that bad today. Still, when work is my highlight, you know things aren't great. And that's not to say they're incredibly bad because that's not true either - just stupid, irritating stuff. Almost immediately after work I met up with another wife for some food and talk. It got a bit tense, as I've been in the middle of her and another wife re. an op-sec violation, even though there was no violation. Anyhow, pseudo violations aside, this particular person is making it hard for me to be around her. She absolutely hates her life as an Army wife and is always trash talking the lifestyle to me. At first I tried to help her - be her support, etc but to no avail. And she keeps saying "This isn't for everyone." The more I think about that phrase, the more I just want to boil over. No, this isn't for everyone, but us wives don't always have a choice. Do I enjoy all aspects of the military and being a part from my husband? Hell no. But do I choose my husband? Yes. So that's why I'm willing to do this. That's why I stay. Because I love him. I choose to be strong, and I choose to be happy despite the tough stuff. And so, this situation isn't necessarily FOR me either, but I make the damn best of it because my life, wherever I'm located, is better with Joe in it.
Speaking of him, I had a brief second highlight of the day when he called me earlier. We laughed and danced around all the crap we're not allowed to say, but most importantly we talked for a sec about how good our marriage is. :-) Good times. A bit after that, I took Dex for a walk. After we got back, I prepared to do battle with my computer and scanner. After uninstalling and reinstalling various bullshit, I managed to use my USAA at home check deposit on two of my four checks before everything quit again. I spent 3-4 hours working on this deal and at one point broke down in tears wanting desperately to give my laptop a good hurl across the house like I do my cell phone when I'm pissed. But I didn't. Instead I gave up. I so thought tonight would be victorious. Idiot. I guess I'll try again tomorrow, but that time slot was going to be reserved for trying to fix the lawn mower. We're just loaded up with bullshit around here. Damn it.
(And then the internet kicked out last night, and I couldn't post until now.)

Punching My Dog in the Neck
Grrrrr. Aaaaggghhhh. Uggghhhh.
Let me first thank everyone for your wonderful comments and support on my previous post. I really do appreciate it. It truly does mean a lot to me.
But speaking of support, I need a damn dog nanny. Dex is less settled anyway when it's just one of us (just Joe or just me), but lately it seems like his energy is endless. I even got out my tennis racquet to be able to hit balls to him repeatedly in the backyard. I've done that two or three times since I've gotten home from work today, and I stop when he starts panting like he's going to have a heat stroke. Still, after ten minutes or so of rest he's ready for whatever is next. Bahhhhh. And imagine that with me continuing to try to unpack (yes, still). He is wherever I am. His head is always shoved in whatever I am doing. And on top of all that, I tried to trim his toenails tonight. I've only done it myself once before, but he was chill. Today, he flipped shit, and I had to tackle him multiple times and give him a timeout between toenails. DAMN DAMN DAMN HIM. Currently, he's laying down next to me, with one of his paws resting on my propped up legs, and he's staring at me. What a creepo.
In other news, it's been a whole week since I last posted. Work was hell. We were receiving a diversion, meaning another hospital was full and sent us all their new patients they couldn't fit in. DAMN YOU, AUGUSTA!! Of course we had everyone from our catchment area also, so it was a super fun week. Somehow, though, I still managed to get stuff done at home - BY MYSELF. I got the lawn mowed (even after the self-propelled lever quit working), hauled all the clippings to the curb, got our master bedroom and bathroom completely unpacked and cleaned, finished clearing out the kitchen and mopping/scrubbing the last half of the floor. However, I believe my crowning accomplishment was finally writing and submitting the letter that got my roof fixed. Booya. Of course, the maintenance man's way of fixing it was to ask roofers re-roofing a neighbor's house for an old shingle so he could put it on this roof. (I haven't been able to bring myself to actually lay eyes on the dude's handiwork.) However, the irony in finally getting the roof "fixed" is that now the dishwasher nearly falls out of its cubby when I start loading dishes into it. Fail.
Hmm. I have done absolutely nothing fun in the past week, though I aim to change that this week, hopefully. I did get to hear from Joe quite a bit last week. Of course I didn't hear from him today, after having a dream last night that he died...by falling out of a roller coaster. Wtf. The feelings were so real, though - the devastation and nonstop crying. Also, exact things we've talked about in real life were in the dream - the specifics of what one would do if the other died. Gah. I was so upset - it took me a little bit to finally wake up and realize everything (as far as I know) is okay. Whew.
On a final note, I'll share something light-hearted. The other day when Dex and I were on a walk, some little kids on their bikes came riding up to us as they tracked the ice cream man by listening for his music. As they got up to us, I told the leader that the ice cream man was actually on the next street over (to which there is no passage from our neighborhood). The kid was distraught and then began surveying backyards and wooded areas for a cut-through. He then turned to me and said he could cut through some of the woods, and I told him he might have to scale a fence or two as many of the properties are fenced in. This six(ish) year old boy then turned to me very seriously and said with his thick southern drawl, "I've got experience in the woods; I'm from Alabama." Touche, young man, touche.
Fail.
