Chad, You're a Ding Dong

As Dr. Dre once sang, today was a good day. Even though my head does feel like it's in a vice now.

The middle of the day was a little dicey, as I got into a funk and was cut off from talking to Joe for the weekend at only 3:00pm. I can thank the Army, as usual for that one. Oh well. The upside was that the Eagles won, and it wasn't just a win. They kicked the shit out of the Rams. Joe commented on it not being much of a game if that was the case, but when a season starts with McNabb actually being healthy for the first time in three to four seasons, then yeah, a friggin' massacre is a-ok with this fan.

After that I went outside to weed. Yeah, I've swallowed my pride and taken the parents up on their offer to knock money off the rent if I do yard work. I blew them off when it was first presented because hey, I'm almost 25 years old not a fifteen again. However, managing money and paying off your debt is only possible if you choose to live within or at times under your means. This is one of those times. I hope Joe appreciates all this crap. Garage sales. Consignment (picked up a $50 check last week). And now weeding for my parents. I hear the Talking Heads' "As the Days Go By" playing in my mind right now. 'How?' 'How did I get here?'

However, as I carried my weeding equipment over to the designated flower bed, Dad hollered to me that he'd help me with the dresser I'm refinishing. By helping he meant carrying it out of the garage so I could work on it alone. Ha. It's Joe's dresser. It's a horizontal lay out instead of a vertical one, if that makes sense. It had a hunter green color, save for the top which I thought was faux wood. Until I stripped it. That bitch is actually made of real wood. But it didn't strip evenly, so I'm now doing a distressed look to it. Anyway. The rest is getting painted a flat black, and I'm repainting the hardware with metallic spray paint. Today, I primed and painted it, and it looks really good. Jan came out and helped me a lot. At first I was a little iffy about having a helper, as I'm weird about having help and often like to just do things myself. She did so much, though, and I was greatful for both the help and the company. We even got the hardware sprayed, and further distressed the top of the dresser by beating it with a chain. That part was great. All that's left to do is staining the top, painting one more coat of black on the rest, and screwing the hardware back on. I think the worst is over. Then it's on to the next piece. Just call me Martha from now on.

That all said, it was a pretty productive day, though I know there's so much more to do, and this is my last full week before I go to scout in Georgia. Holy shit, right? RIGHT. It's good, though. This phase in my life needs to come to a close. It's time.

I wish you could find more dressers to beat...nothing like a chaining to relieve stress!! I think the short count down to a departure date will account for a general mood shift...to the good!! Ma
