Good Boy

We were getting ready for bed a bit ago, and after coming back in from his last potty break, Dex of course went to the front window and started barking. This is a nightly ritual. Usually it's nothing; lately, it's been the Christmas lights and reindeer on the neighbor's house across the street. Frustrating. So tonight I went up to him and started to tell him to stop, as I surveyed the street for no one when suddenly my eye caught a figure move out of a shadow way down the street. We both just sat there in the window and watched. I crouched behind him as he sat in doggy alert position and barked his warning bark intermittently. The shadowy figure was a male wearing slightly saggy jeans and a hoodie with the hood up. He was walking slowly - seemingly intentionally slow or drunk - as he talked on the phone. He didn't mess with anyone's curbed trash out for p/u tomorrow, nor did he approach or look in any vehicles. (If he had, my heart would have broken having no laser for the gun yet. A crazy one eyed man once explained to me the benefits of having guns with lasers, in his case a rifle, to scare away trespassers.) But anyway. After he got out of view from the house, I went to the garage and watched a bit more. I even brought Dex out and motioned for him to stand on his back legs. He obeyed and popped his front paws up on the garage window and stood next to me watching out, his head level with the window. It was a real bonding moment. The dude eventually made it down to a driveway and paced around a bit in it. I almost wonder if he was talking to a girl. I thought about calling the cops just in case he was looking to smash in a vehicle, but I didn't get that vibe. Guessing he probably lived there. I'm just really impressed by my dog. I wonder how many real things he has barked at when I thought nothing was there. I didn't feel unsafe before, but I do feel safer now. I love Dexy. So much that he was even allowed on the bed today and today only. Since he got to be near me, I had peace. It was worth it. (Don't worry Ma Lowrey, the afghan is not Dex's. It's washed and on the bed with me! Sleep with it every night now.)

Other things going on:
- Took today off sorta
- Having a dinner here Friday night with some friends
- Don't work this weekend!! woohoo
- Freaking out about lack of Christmas gifts bought
- Discovered gmail messenger with Joe.

Yeah. That's about it. Things are becoming more and more exciting. I really wish I could say more. But uh. I can't. So instead, g'night!

Dexter looks cute as hell there. I wish I could have hung with you both yesterday. Also, give him a good job with the possible drunk guy. That's what he is there for, in the end. That and to bring you infinite happiness/frusteration. Love you.

A dog like Dexter would be a good thing to have. If anything suspicious went down in my neighborhood, my cats would just run away. :)

Have a wonderful day!

I keep telling Nic we need a dog for when he's deployed but he's not yet convinced - well and there's the fact that my kids are positively terrified of dogs *sigh*

Yeah Dex! What a pic it would have been to get a shot of the 2 of you "standing" at the garage window!! Nothing like a hairy protector. Love you.
