When Joe is Gone...

This is what happens. Granted, he's only allowed on the couch when invited...which, from this picture, means he was invited, so it's not that bad. He sits in Joe's spot and cuddles against me. And it's nice. I left him on the couch like then when I went to get ready for bed. As I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom, I heard the familiar scratching of him trying to get his bedding comfortable before he lays down. Wondering if he was doing that to our couch, I quickly popped back into the living room. Nope. After I left, he got off the couch and went into his kennel, and was scratching at his bed before laying down on it. He's a smarty. And he knows better than to scratch my damn couch.

Speaking of Joe being gone, I'm ready for him to come home. He's set to come home on Saturday, but there's also a possiblity of him flying somewhere else on that day for four weeks. He's on standby for another training and won't know anything until the day of. Awesome, right? He might be home in two days or a month. No big deal. I'm cheering for myself on this one, though. Fuck that training. I think I'm entitled to have that attitude once in a while, especially since if he comes home, he'll actually get to attend a function with me as my husband and date. It's the South Carolina wedding to be exact, and I would love love love it if he could come. I'd really be beside myself. Which probably means he'll go to the training. That reminds me - I took the bridesmaid dress in to be altered today. I'd read some of the reviews on the David's Bridal website (after I bought the dress) that said it's a complicated dress to alter, which makes it expensive. Eighty fucking dollars expensive. It seems like the lady is going to do a great job - she kept saying something along the lines of "we gon' to show off da' bahd-dee." Still, that's more than half of what the dress cost, and I still have to buy shoes. My silver lining is that if my Asian friend at Gin's Alteration makes me look as hot as the pinning showed, what with the mermaid style bottom half of the dress - hello ass, then this will be the only bridesmaid dress thus far that I wear again. Yes, I'll be able to wear it to an Army formal, or as another customer started to tell me - my prom. (Bitch.) Also, the shoes that I'm going to buy for this dress, I'll be able to wear with my dress for Janiece's wedding. Arielle, do I even have to wear shoes for your wedding? :-)

Also, my last w-2 came today, so I'm pumped for a tax return (because that justifies all the wedding apparel I've been buying). Right.

Before the dress fitting, I popped over to Phenix City, AL to check out a media cabinet I found on craigslist. As the 20 minute trip began to unfold, I became convinced I was going to be taken hostage and murdered. With that, I called my friend Sarah here and told her if I didn't call her back in an hour, to come find me. After all, I was heading to AL to meet up with a lady named Silver. That said, I drove through some dumpy part of Phenix City and then, per Silver's directions, pulled into a really nice subvidision. Hell, Silver drives a Volvo station wagon. They (she and her husband, Edward) have a really nice house, and I bought the cabinet for $30. Five bucks under the asking price. Woohoo. Although, this made me feel bad after she was so nice to me - she even hugged me when I left. Oh well. I plan to paint the cabinet and put new hardware on it. In fact, I bought everything I need from Lowe's this evening. I don't know about the chain in general, but the one here gives a 10% military discount. Spouses get it too. I love it when businesses include the spouses. I mean, how could they not, right? We are the silent driving force, or not always so silent in my case, supporting many of the soldiers. But that just doesn't resonate with some places. The zoo in Tucson, Az is one example. Dickheads.

And so tomorrow is possibly the last day before Joe comes home. But possibly not. I'm going to cook dinner for my friend who is coming over with her bloodhound. I really need to clean the house. All my attention this week has been on the office. I cleaned it out. Like really cleaned it out. Like unpacked all the rest of the boxes that were neatly stacked in various locations, sorted through loads of old papers, etc, filed papers to be kept in the file cabinet I painted last week, sorted through lots of other crap and found homes for all of it, and finally hung stuff on the walls. I lived in that room for about three days. Thank god I'm functional enough in my holy-shit-we-really-moved-to-GA depression to actually get a few things done around here. I'm on a roll now, and as Freddy Mercury once sang and Susan continues to, "Don't.Stop.Me.Now."

well, you're gonna want to have something to wear after we leave the beach... that is up to you, though, I don't care if you want to get some 'dressed up' flip flops :)
