Let Me Tell Ya

Okay, so the "Dipe N Wipe" ended up being the disaster I thought it would be.  Other than the organizer and the commander's wife (who probably has to come to these things because she's actually a decent FRG leader unlike the last chick), there were four of us plus only two of the five showerees.  WHAT.THE.FUCK.  The organizer was totally deer in headlights.  Never really said anything, not even about the no-shows, and we all just sat around and shot the shit half wondering what was supposed to happen next (which was nothing), eating the food we paid for and brought and then eventually sorting the diapers into five piles.  Yes, because even the three assholes who didn't even bother to show up, two of which were wives of an E-6 and E-7, still got loot.  And of the four of us regular gals who showed up, three are wives of E-5s and one an E-4 wife.  Ain't that some shit??  All in all is was too much work and money for something that was poorly planned and turned out to be a bust.  They could have just added a mini baby shower segment on to the next FRG meeting and the results would have been better.  Plus, I wouldn't have had to waste a damn Sunday.  Oh well.  I'm going to be sure and opt out of that nonsense when it rolls around time for me to be a showeree aka after my kid is born.  I also don't think strangers, especially wives of lower ranking men, should have to buy me shit.  No way.

The rest of Sunday ended up okay after that.  Joe still went to soccer practice and apparently somehow drilled himself in the crotch with the ball.  I must attend the next practice to watch the insanity.  Ha.  Today has been good, except for when I finally went to order our crib on Amazon, and it was sold out.  That part sucked.  But the goodness of the day was in the overcast weather which had mercy on our air conditioner, as well as a shopping trip to Walmart where I found one of the fancy air filters in our odd size (this.never.happens).  Seriously, that air filter made my day.  I usually have to go to Ace Hardware where they always seem to think I've lost my way and wondered blindly into their store, only to buy a shitty $2.99 air filter that I'm certain doesn't actually filter anything.  Yes, Walmart for the first time in a very long time came through for Katie.  Of course, they were out of ginger root and the cilantro looked like shit, so I still had to go to Publix for some produce, making a second unintended stop.  However, it still  beat the hell out of a trip across town to Ace.  Hell yeah.

Upon Joe's return home this evening, he saw the "Thai" chicken noodle soup I was making and immediately became a very agreeable helper.  Hell, I had no idea he like it that much, but I do now.  He stayed in the kitchen with me the whole time, washing dishes after I used them and generally keeping me company.  It was very nice.  Also lovely is having felt the girl move around quite a bit today.  In fact, I feel like she is stretched out just under my belly button.  She stays low, and right now it is very hard under there.  Harder than it has been previously.  Kind of worries me, but I hear that's what happens.  Uh, but if this is some symptom for something terrible, please let me know.  Kthanks.  Last, today is my final day of the 27th week, so I'll be the full 27 weeks tomorrow and starting on the 28th week.  Does that make sense?  Also, the 28th week, per at least What to Expect When You're Expecting, is the start of the THIRD trimester.  Holy cow.

Also want the recipe!

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about at all. Is your belly just hard all the time or does it tighten and release intermittently? Does it take your breathe away? To me it sounds like the hardness is just your baby or your lower abdominals stretched out :) You would be able to tell if the hardness is contractions or baby body.

I can't believe you're so close! Grow baby grow!

The version substituted with shrimp.
1-2 T oil
2 garlic cloves... fine chopped
2-3 shallots...fine chopped
1 t ground turmeric
1/2 t chili powder
2 cans coconut milk...get a good quality
1 1/2 quarts chicken broth
2-3 T fresh lime juice
3-4 T crunchy p'butter

1 cup small pieces broccoli crown
1 diced red bell
3/4 cup sauteed musrooms...I like criminis
1 cup fine egg noodles (I use the really fine ones from the Jewish isle)

1-2 T fine chopped scallins
1-2 T chopped cilantro
1-11/2 lbs raw peeled shrimp...smaller ones work well, but it is a lot of peeling!
salt
pepper

Saute the shallots in oil on med heat for a few minutes add garlic...stir til onion is soft, do not burn garlic, it gets bitter
add the spices...stir for a minute...add the liquids and p'butter...turn up heat to bring to a boil, stir to mix and dissolve p'butter and then down to simmer for about 15 minutes, top on pot

add the noodles, vegeys boil for about 5 minutes...add the scallions, cilantro, shrimp...bring to a simmering boil...time it for about 2 minutes, or when shrimp is done...shrimp does not take long and gets rubbery when overcooked...serve with crusty french bread

You can put different vegeys in and sometimes I do not add the mushrooms...taste as you go, if you like it spicy add a little cayenne with the spices about 1/4 to 1/2 t or I sometimes add tabasco....I have found that if you cook the noodles too long they disintegrate, I put them in with the vegeys which I like a little firmer, if you don't cook them longer and add noodles later!

This makes more for left overs...also have more broth on stand by in case it is too thick with stuff! I play this recipe by ear according to what I have....you will too!
