So I started to put this in a comment to respond to the other folks, but then I figured I'd just make it into an actual post. Also, the girl is kicking (or something), so it looks like we'll be writing this together. Too cutesy, right? Yeah, I know, but my stomach is literally jumping.
Tina Fey's book, Bossypants - I too want this book....when it comes out in paperback and isn't expensive as hell. Is it out in paperback? Also, I still need to get Chelsea Handler's new book. Definitely need to read about something other than baby stuff while I still can!!!
Registry stuff. Thank you so much to Aimee and Helena for the help!! As Helena said, Aimee, you are the bomb! Let's see....
- Crib sheets - haha, I totally need to register for them. Originally I was looking at an Ikea Crib (which you have to have a special Ikea mattress and sheets for since it isn't standard and that scared me), but I nixed that and am registered for a standard size crib now, which I guess means a standard mattress, which means I can stop being neurotic and just pick out some sheets already!! Five sets sounds good to me.
- Breast Pump - I have thought about this and read in my Baby Bargains book about it and online. I figure since I'm not working, I really don't need the big mack daddy pump I was looking at. Me and my boobs will be at home with baby. The mini electric pumps didn't get good reviews, but a couple of the small manual ones did. I figured that'd be a good starting point. One in particular - the one I registered for on Target - while some people hated it, others said it was great and even better than their electric pumps. It pumps quickly and easily for a manual pump too. Allegedly. However, should it suck, then I will move on to an electric pump. Figure I'll make the $40 mistake first.
- I have a Boppy I got at consignment for $14. I also got a Bumbo seat with tray for $25 off Craigslist, along with my highly ranked (Consumer Reports) Chicco Keyfit Carseat with base in excellent condition for $65. Woohoo! :-)
- I have samples of Boudreaux's Butt Paste and coupons for more. Need to pick that stuff out still, along with what bathing/shampoo/conditioner stuff to get. Any ideas on that stuff?
- I would like the wrap and the carrier but just haven't looked into them yet. Aimee, I watched you reach out to folks on FB for opinions on the wraps and made mental notes. I want to read more about the Moby, but I've heard lots of good things. Need to look into the carrier as well...they have a lot of Infantino ones at my consignment shop. They just always look too complicated, so I walk away. Ahhh.
- Avent (anti colic) 9 oz bottles are on my Target registry. It said they were for after the first month, and I'm really going to try to not use bottles until six weeks or so (nipple confusion).
- Totally need to register for a monitor. Oops. Good call.
- White noise machine - Because I am insane, I already have one...for myself. Yes, I sleep with a box fan on high, and sometimes have to simultaneously have the white noise on too. If she needs my white noise machine, I suppose I can share, but I really hope she doesn't end up like me, which is why I'm hesitant to start at all.
- My sister may be giving me a pack n' play, but I've also registered on Target for the Fisher Price Newborn Rock N' Hammock. Or whatever the hell it's called. A friend has it and says it's great. Also, the reviews are nothing but good. I know I say this now, and it may change.....but the plan for when she's first born is to put her whole big crib in our room (to be moved in her room across the hall after a couple weeks) That way she's close but can get used to sleeping in it. There's a twin bed in her room too, so I can sleep in there a bit if need be. The hammock will be for naps in the living room or a trip. We'll see what actually happens.
- For the burp towels, I registered for the prefold diapers. Heard they worked well for that...and afterward make great car-washing towels. Yes yes.
- Wipes - I'm still looking into something reusable, at least for while she's still breastfeeding. Probably should register for some disposable ones for the diaper bag, though. Oh, and a diaper bag. Any suggestions on a diaper bag?
- Baby bath tub - another thing I've slacked on. Probably will pick one up from the consignment shop. They always have several. I'm anticipating the sink at first, though....with my mother's help. :-)
Whew. Awesome. I feel organized. YEAH! And thank you again for the help/suggestions. Anything else ya got, shoot my way. I'm really loving learning about all this!

Awe, I miss the baby kicks. Annabel used to roll across my belly when I was in the bath tub. I would rest a book on her back and she'd kick it off. She was sassy from the get go ;) Mack would jab an elbow out right where my belly button used to be. It was interesting to watch!
As far as a crib mattress, I wouldn't spend much. They're pretty much all the same. I'm still not sure why a 10-35 lb baby needs comfort coils. How much weight can they possibly displace on those things?! Since we have twins, we did/do everything on the cheap. We got this mattress http://www.walmart.com/ip/Safety-1St-Crib-Toddler-Mattress/9864293 for both cribs and its firm and fits well with our cribs (they're standard size). Its also easy to clean. One of the twin moms in my multiples group clued me into this mattress.
We have them in a pack n play in our room at night, but soon they'll be rolling so we're bringing the cribs in our room until they're over 6 months old. So I'm with you there on bringing her crib in with you guys. I've read its not good to bed share (oops!) but it is good to have their sleep space in your room. Done!
I hear tommee tippee bottles are good for breastfed babies. They're shaped like a boob. Stick to your guns about breastfeeding and go with your gut about using paci's and bottles before a certain age. Breastfeeding is HARD, do what works for you and her. I never breastfed because mine were early, but I pumped. I think Annabel latched ONCE and Mack never really did.
Pumping is tough too. In the beginning I had to pump every two hours...around the clock. When the babies were in the NICU that was fine, I didn't have them home to care for yet. When they got home it was near impossible to pump every 6 hours let alone two. Its my BIGGEST regret. I wish I could have pumped/breastfed longer.
Use your lactation consultants at the hospital. Its weird at first because they're squeezing your nipples and jamming them in baby's mouth, but hey, you just gave birth-they've seen more of you than you care to remember :) BUT they give great tips and are so encouraging. They can also put you in touch with breastfeeding consultants in your town when you go home and la leche league or other breastfeeding groups. So helpful to stay in contact with people that can cheer you on and know how hard it is.
You can make your own reusable wipes. I've seen a tutorial. Most of my friends cloth diaper, so if you're interested I'll put you in touch with them. I wanted to cd, but the start up cost for two in cd's was astronomical.
Swaddle Me's are a sleep lifesaver for us. We swaddle them every night. I tried not swaddling for one night this week and none of us got a wink of sleep. Some babies hate the confinement. Mine love it. They do get an arm out every night though. As long as their tight, they stay asleep most of the night. You may have already registered for those, but if you haven't, they are wonderful.
As far as the Moby, don't let it scare you. Its easy. There are so many tutorials and different wraps/holds on you tube. Front holds, back holds, side holds, etc. Easy and it takes a lot of weight off your back. The slings and other carriers aren't so forgiving. Mike even sometimes uses the Moby. Etsy has a whole host of mei tais (another type of carrier) and slings.
Sorry, I did it again :) Hopefully its at least helpful! Oh and thanks for your sweet comment. I have a LONG way to go and I think this poor belly is shot. Thats what plastic surgery is for, right?!
